OXO Good Grips 9-Piece Nesting Bowls and Colanders Set, Yellow/Orange/Red

Good function, quality, appearance - one flaw *UPDATE 10/08/2013)
I received my set of nesting bowls and colanders just in time for serious strawberry season. I love being able to rinse the berries in a colander then put the colander it its pairing bowl to drain and store in the fridge. I have also used them for rinsing lettuce, then making a salad right in the colander. No more putting a colander on a different sized plate to catch dripping water! taking up more space in the fridge or table than needed.

Here are my key Pros and two FYIs:

Pros:
* 3 convenient bowl sizes (5.5 quart, 3 quart, 1.5 quart) in 3 different colors, making it super easy to grab matching pieces
* easy to stack pieces, both in the cabinet and in the fridge with lids on
* well balanced bowls with non-slip bottoms
* bowls and colanders are dishwasher safe (see associated FYI below)
* light weight, yet sturdy, plastic(?) material & bowls have tight fitting lids, making them perfect for travel and fridge storage (see con & fyi...

Built like a travel mug, not really arthritis-friendly
I really do appreciate Oxo stuff - the company was founded to make kitchen equipment that is usable for people with grip and strength issues (nice, grippy, cushy handles), but they still manage to design things that don't look like an orthopedic shoe. This set, however, is a mixed bag.

- BOWLS - the bowls are, for want of a better term, built like a plastic travel mug. That is to say, they are two ply, with a colored layer outside, a white layer inside, a gap between the two layers, and a seam around the rim. The seam is a little rough, which may be a crud-trap issue, but it's slightly to the outside, which mitigates. The bowls have a nice heft to them, and a silicone bit on the bottom to keep them from sliding around, but no handles, which isn't really arthritis-friendly. My medium-sized bowl also had some divots and some small round bumps in the bottom, looking very much like the plastic pellet stock wasn't fully melted before the bowl was molded.

- COLANDERS...

Much sturdier than they look, covers are great, they work wonderfully!
I love colanders and have quite a few laying around in a more decorative fashion. I'm a little crazy like that. So when I saw these in the bright colors - no way for me to not get them! The three sizes are perfect for most of your needs. The large one is great for regular pasta and other large items (lettuce, kale, etc). It has solid handles and does not slip. It is sturdy and there is no problem with it bending or being hard to manage because it is thin. That was a problem with my last, admittedly cheap, set. The bowls are just as sturdy as the rest of them and the covers fit perfectly. Great for just covering and throwing in the fridge. Their footprint is pretty small considering all that you get - although the covers have to go on top as they do not fit on the bowls with the colander in it. These wash up nicely as well and have no strange plastic smell. A huge win - three makes it easy to assure you'll always have the right equipment when you need it!
