Good for some drawers and some knives
Do a little homework before you buy this...
Product specs say this knife holder measures 16.9 x 4 x 1.9 inches. My drawer is over 1.9 inches deep. Keep in mind, though, that it is 1.9 inches deep BEFORE you add your knives. My drawer would not close when this holder had knives in it. This is not a product flaw...just a simple matter of geometry. So, get out a ruler, and measure your drawer to be sure this is the right holder for you.
Keep in mind, also, that the usefulness of this holder depends a LOT on your particular set of knives. I found that some fit the holder very well, while others did not:
* Short paring knives worked well, without exception.
* A Victorinox Swiss Army 8-Inch Fibrox Straight Edge Chef's Knife fit well
* A Yaxell Ran 5-Inch Santoku Knife, 1-Count was too short to fit in a...
Innovative In-Drawer Knife Holder
Victorinox has created an innovative in-drawer knife holder that should work for most homes. The only drawback is that most homes probably have far more knives than this holder can hold. A 7-slot holder, this can only hold three large knives and four smaller blades. Our home has three times that number of knives, and we would have to be able to fit three or four of these in a drawer in order for the it to accommodate all of our knives.
Ideally, this is a nice solution for a small home or apartment where counter-space is a premium. It will fit in most drawers. It's mad of an attractive hardwood and most knives will fit in the tray, keeping them off the counter. Victorinox also sells a 14-slot version that probably would work better for most families.
Good looking and convenient.
Its good looks don't really have much to do with anything, considering this knife tray is tucked away in my drawer and who's going to see it? That's the point of it all, the ability to tuck knives away and off the counter and this 7-slot cutlery tray fits beautifully into my drawer. The longest knife I own is my Forschner 10 1/4 inch wavy bread knife and it fits easily into one of the slots for larger knives. Small to medium knives all fit well in the 4 slots for the smaller knives.
So all in all, I'm quite satisfied with this cutlery tray. (I do have to admit that it did not eliminate all the clutter on my counter top; only a hurricane would do that or the more pleasant total kitchen remodel with new cabinets and all the bells and whistles for gadget storage.) It didn't even get all the knives off the counter since I still have my most frequently used ones in a knife block in plain sight. When you have way more than 7 knives to your name and no more drawer space for...
