A Very Capable Immersion Blender
Mixing - The two speed operation is handy. For making soups, you can do most of the job on low speed, even with chunky vegetables. This makes it easier to control how thick the final product is, and it makes for less possibility of splash-ups. The switch feel is sure (good tactile feel). The blade is stocky and sharp - it looks like it's built for business. I blended a large pot of tomato black bean garlic soup down in under 30 seconds.
Motor - Plenty of power. It's quiet compared to my last blender (especially on low), which was 3x the price. I cannot comment on durability yet, as this is a new model.
Size/weight/feel - Hefty, but not heavy. It has a quality feel with a nice balance. If it were too light, it would feel cheap.
Cord - Long enough to get the job done, but not too long to make wrapping up the cord a hassle.
Assembly/Cleaning - Easy to attach/detach. The lock-up feels solid. So far, there's little mechanical play in...
Plastic Gear Problem!
I have had my Smart Stick for few weeks and am loving it! So easy to use, clean, and store. I am enjoying many more healthy smoothies in the morning, along with delicious soups for lunch. I learned NOT to lift it up too high when blending. (Opps!)
Easy applesauce....I peeled and cut apples, simmered them down, added some cinnamon, and nutmeg.....and gave them a whirl. Delicious! Also made a sweet potato and carrot mix, simmered, drained, added some ginger, and easily whipped it into a side dish my grandchildren loved!
So far...so very good!! Glad I bought it. Arrived promptly and no problems.
Update: 4/23/13: Ignore the words above!!! After maybe 10 uses, none of them on challenging mixes, my Smart Stick has broken. The plastic gear inside looks rough and ragged. The blade barely turns. It happened as I attempted to blend cooked carrots into a soup. I never used it on anything that seemed too solid, so I am very disappointed as I really liked it. Some of...
same plastic gear problem as others
This is the second time I've experienced this problem. First was with a cheaper model (still a cuisinart immersion blender). So, I got this one figuring it would last longer. After 1.5 months the same thing happened (the drive shaft linking the blade to the motor strips). It looks to be a very common problem. Can't return it to Amazon (it's after their allowed return date), and I know from other experiences that my friends have had with Cuisinart that returning even a defective item is extremely time consuming and typically requires original packaging (who keeps that stuff?).
Note that this was with typical use... i.e., the first time it jammed on a frozen blueberry, and the second time on a dried date, both for breakfast smoothies. It's ridiculous to have such a nice blender with such a weak connecting link between the motor and blade.
